Autumn Passing

autumn passing

One sunny day
on traverse bay
a seagull settled
still and stoic
on soft white sand
that edged the lake
a rippling wake
lapped soft repose

ye once soared
on wings of wisp
sunlight flight
azure skies
floating free
‘bove blue waters
with promise seen
o’er fields of green

now wings of grey
flared lying waiting
with finished legs
finally folded
crested snowy head
respires shallow breath
eyes fading embers
signal surrender

grounded backdrop
angle autumn light
waters mirror
last thoughts reflect
as breath concludes
the setting sun
colors clouded skies
downy organish hues.
